Bluewater Spirit

  • How long will my Bluewater Spirit last?

The Bluewater Spirit has been engineered to deliver cleaner, healthier water that you can trust for drinking and washing fruit and vegetables for a great many years.

  • Is it difficult to change a filter?

Changing a filter in a Bluewater Spirit has been designed to be as easy as possible. The Spirit manual explains the simple steps required to change a filter or, alternatively, look at our filter change video, which will talk you through the process.

  • How often do I need to change a filter?

The frequency of filter change depends naturally on the quality of the water being purified by your Bluewater Spirit. We generally advise filters should be changed at least every six months. However, the Bluewater Spirit is equipped with a ‘water quality monitor’ to supervise the quality of feed and filtered water – should the water deteriorate, a lamp will light up to advise you a filter change is required.

  • What exactly is SuperiorOsmosis™ technology?

Innovated in Sweden, SuperiorOsmosis™ delivers such benefits as superior purification efficiency, operating capacity and service life. Slashing the water waste traditionally associated with reverse osmosis systems by up to 79% with a recovery of 61%, the Bluewater Spirit’s SuperiorOsmosis™ technology removes the need for a tank to deliver direct flowing water and can deliver a stunning 3380 liters per day.

  • Does the Bluewater Spirit purify all kinds of water?

Bluewater Spirit is designed to purify water being delivered from a municipal water utility. It harnesses Bluewater’s unique second-generation SuperiorOsmosis™ technology to remove impurities and contaminants that may be found in municipal water.

Our bottles

  • Can I put my bottle in the freezer?

Do not place the bottle in the freezer. Since the bottle is insulated, it will not be colder. Put ice in instead.

  • Can I use my bottle for other drinks than water?

Yes absolutely! When using the bottle for fizzy drinks, carbonated water or hot liquid, please be careful when opening the bottle.

  • Does the bottle fit cup holders?

    Yes, it will fit perfectly.

  • Why does the bottle have a bottom pad?

Our silicone bottom pad will prevent scratches on any surface. It also prevents sounds when you put your bottle down on a table or other surfaces.

  • How do I clean my bottle?

We recommend washing your bottle daily, especially if it has been used for any liquid other than water. A scrub of the interior, the mouthpiece, and the exterior will keep your bottle clean. The bottle is dishwasher safe up to 50 °C but the lid is more sensitive over time. Make sure to wash the bottle in low heat program if using a dishwasher, but to wash the lid by hand.

When you’re not using your bottle, store it without the cap on so the inside stays dry.

  • Can I put my bottle in the dishwasher?

The bottle is dishwasher safe up to 50 °C but the lid is more sensitive over time. Make sure to wash the bottle in low heat program if using a dishwasher, but to wash the lid by hand.

  • What’s the benefits of using a reusable water bottle?

By using a reusable water bottle, we decrease the use of single-use plastic bottles, that saves our oceans and environment. And we get hydrated too.

  • How long will the bottle keep the fluid hot or cold?

Your fluid will stay cold for 24 hours or hot for 12 hours. Do not use liquid hotter than 80 degrees since the cap has Tritan material.

  • Can I microwave my glass bottle?

Yes, the bottle can be put in the microwave but take off the cap before since the cap is not microwave safe.

  • Can I put my glass bottle in the freezer?

No, do not put you glass bottle in freezer since the water will expand as it freezes and as a result your bottle can crack.

  • Can I put fizzy drinks or carbonated water in my glass bottle?

When using the bottle carbonated drinks, please be careful when opening the lid so the liquid does not spill since the carbonic acid creates high pressure in the bottle. Please do not fill the bottle to the very top, leave some room for air.

  • Can I have hot liquid like coffee in my glass bottle?

Yes, the bottle can hold hot liquid up to 80 degrees, but please be careful since the bottle will be hot to hold. Please use your silicone sleeve as heat protection.

  • What is borosilicate glass?

Not all glass is created equal. The infinitely reusable, Bluewater borosilicate glass bottles are made mostly of silica, the same substance found in rock and sand. Highly durable, it has a higher heat resistance than other types of glass. Plus non-toxic borosilicate glass is safe and environmentally friendly, making it a better choice both for you and our planet.

Water purification & TDS

  • What is TDS?

The simplest way to discover how contaminated your water may be is to use a special meter that measures ‘Total Dissolved Solids’ (TDS) such as salts, minerals and other stuff that can be harmful, including metals and chemicals. The lower the TDS, the ‘purer’ your water may be.

  • How does the TDS meter work?

TDS is measured on a quantity scale, either in mg/liter or, more commonly, in parts per million (PPM). Simply put, if the TDS level is 1,000 mg/l or 1,000 PPM, it means that out of one-million parts of H20, 1,000 of those parts comprise something else.

  • What TDS level should tap water be ideally?

The lower the level, the better. TDS levels exceeding 1,000 mg/l is a general indication that the water is undrinkable. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suggests a limit of 500 mg/l, however. Water registering a TDS level of 0 – 50 can be considered pretty good.

  • How accurate are TDS readers?

TDS meters are pretty accurate at showing the total dissolved solids in tap water, but they will not specify exactly what those solids are. To find out what is in your tap water you’d have to use a much more expensive system or send samples to a testing laboratory.

  • How can I assure I get accurate TDS readings?

Refer to your TDS device manual for detailed instructions and remember that TDS meters can vary.

Shake: Always make sure to shake excess water off the meter before dipping it into a water sample, even if it’s the same water.

Stir/tap: After dipping the meter in the water, always lightly tap it against the side and stir the meter to remove any lingering air bubbles or electrical charges.

Positioning: When taking the reading, always make sure to hold the meter straight up without it touching the sides or bottom of the glass/beaker/cup. The probes should be suspended as close to the center of the water sample as possible.

Time: The longer the meter is in the water, the more accurate the reading will be.

Temperature: 25 degrees Celsius is the ideal temperature for conductivity readings, even if the meter has ATC.

Rinse: If switching between very low and very high ppm water, always rinse the probes with distilled water to avoid any build-up.

  • Does water temperature impact TDS readings?

Conductivity of ions in water depends upon temperature. There are several factors that cause this effect, but a major one is simply that the ions naturally move around faster as they get warmer. When the same numbers of ions are moving faster, the apparent conductivity is increased. The relationship between conductivity and temperature is complicated and dependent on the solution being tested.

Pure water responds fairly linearly with temperature, with its conductivity rising by 4.55% for every degree centigrade (2.5% per degree Fahrenheit). Sodium chloride solutions have a smaller change, about 2.12% per degree centigrade. Tap and other natural waters have many different ions in them, and such systems sometimes respond nonlinearly with temperature changes, but not typically to as great of an extent as does pure water.

For this reason, nearly all conductivity meters simultaneously measure the conductivity and the temperature.

  • What is acceptable drinking water?

The EPA sets a maximum level 500 PPM, although we would say anything above 170 PPM can be considered as ‘hard’ and will not taste as pure as nature intended.

  • What can a high TDS reading indicate?

High levels of total dissolved solids (TDS) may reveal the possible presence of toxic substances such as lead, arsenic, nitrate and more nasty stuff. It can also lead to water tasting salty, bitter or metallic. Water containing high amounts of calcium and magnesium, for example, can discolor plates and glasses as well as cause damage to dishwashers, washing machines and coffee makers. To read more, please go to our page about water purification for dishwashers.
